Anyone can form a team!

Follow these six easy steps to form a team:

  1. Find Players: A minimum of three players (same gender) are required for a team in the spring season (January through June).  For mixed teams in the fall season (July through December), a minimum of two males and two females are required.  There is no maximum number of players per team. The NBL has five league levels: 6.5 (A), 5.5 (B), 4.5 (C), 3.5 (D) and 2.5 (E).  In each league, all players must be rated at the respective league level or below.  For example, in an Adult Mixed 3.5 league, all players on all teams must have current ratings of 3.5 or lower.  Click here for more information on ratings.  Individuals looking for teams to play on, and teams looking for players, may post messages on the League Finder. Click here to download a flyer that can be posted at your facility.

  2. Find a Facility: For your home matches, you will need a facility that has one or two regulation badminton courts.  Your team will need approximately two hours of court time to complete a match at your home facility.

  3. Determine Playing Days and Times: Decide on the preferred playing day(s) and preferred playing time(s) for your home matches.  Please try to be flexible and choose more than one preferred playing day.

  4. Select a Team Captain: Select a team captain who will be responsible for posting match results online after each home match.  For junior leagues, it is recommended that an adult be the team captain.

  5. Select a Team Name: Your team name must include one of the following: the name of your home site, the name of your affiliated organization, the name of a local sponsor, or the name of your district plus an appropriate one-word nickname.  Examples include:

    Orange County Badminton Club Stars
Philippine Badminton Club of America Strings
    Fieldhouse Ford Flyers
    Toronto Racquets

  6. Once your team has completed Steps 1-5, have your Team Captain complete the online Team Registration form. Click here to open the Team Registration window. After this form is submitted, your team captain will be given a ten-digit team ID number, which players will use to register on Railstation.  Registration for local (district) leagues will not begin until there are at least two teams (same league level) in a district; you will not receive your team ID number until there is at least one other team (same league level) in your district.

Please note:

  • There are registration periods for each season.  For the Spring Season, team captains and the minimum number of players usually register during the month of January (in some cases, registrations will be accepted during the month of February).  For the Fall Season, team captains and the minimum number of players usually register during the month of July (in some cases, registrations will be accepted during the month of August).
  • When captains from two or more teams (same league level, same district) have submitted the online Team Registration form and received their team numbers, players may begin to register on Railstation.  NBL will contact team captains to let them know that their players may register.
  • Once players have registered, NBL will publish the league schedule (available by selecting Railstation at top of Recreational League page).
  • Additional players beyond the minimum required may register at any time during the season.
  • All participants in State/Provincial Playoffs, Regional Championships and NBL Finals must have played in at least two regular season matches at the local (district) level.
  • A team that wins its district league may add two players from any other team in the district league for the State/Provincial Playoffs and beyond.
